Our Physics Model

Our simulation is based on established tire friction principles including the effect of rubber compound type on temperature sensitivity, Pacejka-inspired contact patch modeling, and real-world aquaplaning speed estimation. While our engine provides highly useful comparative data, all results should be treated as estimates for informational purposes.

Key parameters modeled:

  • Rubber compound type × ambient temperature interaction
  • Road surface friction coefficients (dry, wet, icy, oily, sand)
  • Pressure-to-contact-area relationship
  • Tread depth impact on wet-weather performance
  • ABS vs non-ABS braking dynamics
  • Speed-dependent grip degradation curve

Simulation & Results

How accurate are the results?

Results are theoretical estimates based on established friction physics models. They are excellent for comparison and education but should not replace professional tire advice. Real-world performance depends on your vehicle, driving behaviour, tire condition, and road state.

What is the grip coefficient?

The grip coefficient (μ) is the ratio of friction force to the normal force pressing the tire onto the road. A value of 1.0 means the tire can generate a braking or cornering force equal to the vehicle's weight. Higher = more grip. Ice typically gives values around 0.15–0.30; dry asphalt with a good summer tire can reach 0.85–1.0.

Why does grip drop so much in cold temperatures?

Summer tire compounds are engineered to be soft and grippy above 7°C. Below that threshold, the rubber hardens and loses the ability to conform to road micro-textures, dramatically cutting friction. Winter tires use different compounds that stay pliable at sub-zero temperatures.

What is aquaplaning speed?

Aquaplaning occurs when a water layer builds up under the tire faster than the tread can evacuate it, causing the tire to float and lose contact with the road. The speed shown is a theoretical estimate — wider tires and shallower tread lower this threshold significantly.

Why do my braking distances differ from published figures?

Published tests use new tires, optimal pressure, controlled track surfaces, and professional drivers. Our simulation models the physics but cannot account for every variable. Use the figures for relative comparisons between setups, not as absolute predictions.

Can I compare a summer tire against a winter tire?

Yes — use Compare Tires mode. Select different models, set different temperatures to simulate seasonal conditions, and see the side-by-side results.

Tire Data

Which tire models are included?

20 models from Michelin, Continental, Pirelli, Bridgestone, Goodyear, Hankook, Yokohama, Dunlop, Nokian, Toyo, Falken, Nexen, Kumho, Firestone, Barum, Matador, GT Radial, Landsail, Antares, and Westlake — spanning summer and all-season categories.

My tire isn't listed — can I still simulate?

Yes. Skip the tire selector and enter your dimensions manually. The simulation will use generic performance characteristics based on your inputs.

Can you add a specific tire I need?

Absolutely — use the Contact page to submit a request. We add new models regularly.

Technical

How do I export results?

After running a simulation, click PDF to download a full report, or click Share to copy a URL that encodes your current configuration for bookmarking or sharing.

Does the simulator store my data?

No. All calculations happen locally in your browser. The only thing stored is your dark/light theme preference. No simulation data is ever sent to a server.

Which browsers are supported?

All modern browsers — Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge. For the best experience and PWA install support, Chrome or Edge on desktop and Chrome on Android are recommended.

Guide

How To Use
TireSimulator.Pro

A complete guide to all four simulation modes

Getting Started

There are four analysis modes available via the tabs at the top of the simulator: Single Tire, Compare Tires, Braking Lab, and Season Score. All modes work without selecting a model — just enter dimensions manually if needed.

Step 1 — Select a tire model (optional)

Click any tile in the tire grid to select a model. This pre-fills the dimensions and loads that tire's known performance scores into the charts. If your tire isn't listed, skip this step.

Step 2 — Configure your parameters

Set tire width, aspect ratio, rim size, inflation pressure, ambient temperature, road condition, surface type, tread depth, vehicle weight, and driving style to match your real-world situation.

Step 3 — Run the simulation

Click the main action button (e.g. Run Simulation). A summary modal appears first, then full metrics, charts, and visualisations are rendered below.

Single Tire Mode

The most detailed mode — analyses one tire configuration across all performance dimensions.

  • Performance Metrics: Eight key values — grip coefficient, overall diameter, contact patch area, safety score, tread depth, fuel impact, wear rate, and aquaplaning speed estimate.
  • Safety Score (0–100): Above 80 = Excellent · 60–80 = Good · below 60 = Warning. Accounts for grip, tread depth, and pressure.
  • Speed Risk Zones: Shows whether current grip is safe at 30, 50, 80, 100, 120, and 150 km/h.
  • Grip vs Speed chart: Visualises how grip degrades as speed increases under current conditions.
  • Performance Radar: Six-axis chart — dry, wet, ice, comfort, wear, and fuel scores.
  • Temperature Map: Shows where your ambient temperature falls on the −25°C to 55°C grip spectrum.
  • Tire Profile: Rendered cross-section with accurate dimensions, plus a contact patch visualisation coloured by grip level.

Tips

  • Switch Road Condition from Dry to Wet or Icy to see how dramatically grip collapses on summer tires.
  • Set temperature below 7°C with a summer tire — watch the safety score drop in real time.
  • Reduce tread depth to 2 mm and observe the wet grip penalty.

Compare Tires Mode

Runs two tire simulations simultaneously and produces a full side-by-side analysis.

  • Configure Tire A (left) and Tire B (right) independently — different models, dimensions, pressures, temperatures, and conditions.
  • The Head-to-Head table compares every metric and highlights the winner per row.
  • The dual Grip vs Speed chart overlays both tire curves on one graph.
  • The Verdict section gives a plain-language summary of which tire wins and by how much.

Tips

  • Compare a wide performance tire vs a narrow touring tire to see the grip-vs-efficiency trade-off.
  • Set Tire A to dry and Tire B to wet to simulate mixed-weather suitability at a glance.

Braking Lab Mode

Calculates physics-based stopping distances at seven speeds from 30 to 200 km/h.

  • The results table shows braking distance, total stopping distance (including 1 s reaction time), kinetic energy, and risk level for each speed.
  • The Emergency Stop panel highlights the 100 km/h stopping distance — a useful real-world benchmark.
  • ABS improves braking distance by approximately 18% by preventing wheel lock-up.

Tips

  • Toggle ABS on and off to see its real impact on stopping distance.
  • Try icy road conditions — the distances are often surprising.
  • Increase vehicle mass to 2 500 kg to simulate an SUV or van.

Season Score Mode

Rates the selected tire across summer, winter, and wet conditions in one overview.

  • Three score boxes: warm/dry (28°C), cold/icy (−5°C), and mild/wet (15°C).
  • All-Conditions Radar: Full profile across six dimensions.
  • Condition Bars: Performance across six road surface types.
  • Recommendations: Plain-language verdict based on tire type and tread depth.

Exporting & Sharing

  • PDF Export: Captures the full results section as a downloadable PDF report.
  • Share Link: Encodes your inputs into a URL. Anyone opening it gets the same configuration pre-loaded.
  • Copy: Copies the raw metric values to your clipboard.
